Product description
A rare lamp base by Maison Charles, France, made around 1970. This iconic model features the famous "Corn Ears" motif, combining a gilt bronze ear of corn with finely veined silvered bronze leaves. The whole rests on a square, architecturally structured base, giving the lamp a particularly elegant sculptural presence. Maison Charles manufactured its lighting fixtures to order, offering various finishes and configurations according to customer preferences. This example presents an elegant combination of silvered and gilt bronze, less common than the fully gilded versions. The double-socket upper fitting corresponds to an original configuration found on some period pieces. A true decorative sculpture when displayed without a lampshade, this lamp base perfectly illustrates the refinement of 1970s French design, blending naturalist inspiration with neoclassical aesthetics. The lampshade visible in one of the photographs is shown for illustrative purposes only to demonstrate its appearance in context. The silvered bronze is beautifully preserved with a lovely shine and a uniform patina. The lamp is sound overall, with no significant corrosion. The only noteworthy detail is a slight bend in the central stem, discreet and without affecting the stability or the overall aesthetic of the lamp. The electrical wiring is functional with a double socket. No visible signature.
