Product description
With the Concha program, Jo Otterpohl created one of the most distinctive German lounge furniture pieces of the 1970s for COR. The sculptural design language, the generously upholstered volumes, and the uncompromising color scheme make this extraordinary 4-piece set an authentic statement of the Space Age era. The powerful combination of vibrant orange and deep brown gives the armchairs a distinctive presence and impressively embodies the optimistic belief in the future of that time.
The 4-piece set offered here is in exceptionally good original condition. The colors appear remarkably fresh and brilliant, while the high-quality upholstery fabric shows almost no signs of wear, except for a small, barely noticeable spot on the side of one armchair. The generous upholstery is dimensionally stable and offers the characteristically comfortable seating for which the Concha model is valued. The white lacquered wooden shells create an exciting contrast to the expressive upholstery and emphasize the futuristic design. The high-quality execution gives the armchairs a sculptural effect and underlines the architectural character of the design.
Particularly noteworthy is the modular concept of the design. Thanks to the chrome castors integrated into the backs, the individual elements can be moved effortlessly and rearranged again and again. Whether as a communicative seating group, an open lounge landscape, or individual solitaire armchairs – the modules offer exceptional flexibility and adapt to different living and commercial concepts.
Since its founding in 1954, the German manufacturer COR has stood for the highest quality workmanship, innovative constructions, and timeless design. The company from Rheda-Wiedenbrück remains one of Europe's most renowned furniture manufacturers to this day and has collaborated with numerous significant designers. The combination of craftsmanship precision, high-quality materials, and durable quality has made COR furniture coveted collector's items for decades.
With the Concha model, Jo Otterpohl succeeded in creating a design that perfectly captures the creative freedom of the 1970s. The softly modeled forms are reminiscent of organic landscapes, while the clear modular structure offers surprisingly modern functionality. Today, Concha is one of the most sought-after German lounge systems of its era and convinces equally as a design object, collector's item, and comfortable seating furniture.
An exceptionally rare original set with an iconic aura that blurs the boundaries between furniture, sculpture, and spatial design in a fascinating way. For discerning collectors and lovers of authentic vintage design, this ensemble offers the rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding piece of German design history in first-class condition.
