Rare Collection of Eight Ceramic Bowls by Fritz van Daalen Keramik, Produced in Aalen, West Germany, During the 1950s.
Founded in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1938 and Later Relocated to Aalen, the Fritz van Daalen Manufactory Became Known for Its Distinctly Modern Post-War Ceramics, Combining Organic Forms With Expressive Glazes and Hand-Applied Decoration.
This Collection Brings Together Several Variations of Van Daalen's Characteristic Asymmetrical, Biomorphic Bowl Designs.
The Pieces Feature a Broad Range of Period Glazes and Decorative Treatments, Including Soft Yellow, Pale Blue, Terracotta, Off-White and Speckled Grey Interiors, Contrasted by Predominantly Dark or Black Exteriors. Several Bowls Are Decorated With Freely Drawn Linear Motifs, While Others Rely Entirely on Colour and Surface.
The Contrast Between the Restrained Black Exterior and the Colourful Interiors Gives the Pieces a Particularly Strong Sculptural Quality.
Each Bowl Is Formed in the Characteristic Organic Language of German 1950s Design — Closely Associated With the Wider Mid-Century Aesthetic of the Period and the Era of Kidney-Shaped Tables, Asymmetrical Furniture and Biomorphic Decorative Arts.
