An early edition ‘Cobra 629’ table lamp, designed by Elio Martinelli in 1968 for Martinelli Luce.
The Cobra is a redesign of the famous ‘Serpente’, which was produced by the same manufacturer a couple of years earlier.
The lamp consists of two resin-moulded bodies. Inside, a steel base connects the two parts and allows for 360° rotation. The interior reflector is made from aluminium.
The lamp is made up of geometric lines and can be inscribed in a sphere, giving it a feeling of simplicity. However, it evokes a different feeling when the swivel arm is rotated. It then resembles a cobra in action and, like its predecessor, stands as a symbol of ductility and dynamism, reflecting Martinelli’s design philosophy of pure shapes.
Underneath the base, the manufacturer’s mark can be found.
