Product description
This is a hand-blown art glass pedestal bowl, originating from Mexico. The piece is defined by its vibrant cobalt blue colour, applied using a spatter or confetti technique that creates a dynamic, textured appearance against the clear glass body. Crafted from mouth-blown glass, this bowl showcases the traditional methods often associated with Mexican glass artisans, particularly from regions like Tonalá and Tlaquepaque in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The spatter technique ensures that each piece is unique, with an individual pattern of colour distribution and internal air bubbles characteristic of the hand-made process. Jalisco, Mexico, is famous for its colorful handblown glassware, a craft rooted in Phoenician and Roman history that arrived with the Spanish. The region's first factory opened in the late 19th century in Guadalajara, paving the way for around 30 factories operating today. Distinctively, Mexican glass utilizes recycled glass rather than silica sand. Artisans melt repurposed bottles and jars at 1,200°C using traditional tools like blowpipes.
