The Nikke chair for Asko is a subtly radical exploration of organic geometry in industrial design. Its form is simple: a molded plywood shell that narrows at the waist and flares out towards the shoulders and seat. The base consists of four slender tubular legs lacquered in black.
Finnish furniture is characterized by its clean, simple, geometric and organic lines.
Tapio Veli Ilmari Wirkkala (born June 2, 1915 in Hanko – died May 19, 1985 in Helsinki) was a Finnish designer and sculptor, and a major figure in postwar design.
He can be compared to designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Tapiovaara, Alvar Aalto, Arne Vodder, Børge Mogensen, and Bruno Mathsson.
