He was born on December 23, 1975 in Leidschendam. Casper grew up in Leiden, where he developed his fascination and admiration for the great masters and his passion for “credren” at an early age. To the surprise of his parents, he painted the Night Watch of the “Leidenaar” Rembrandt on the wall in his nursery. Casper translates daily experiences into cupboards full of cartoons, sketches and paintings. In this period, however, always imbued with a touch of “realism”. Work from his early years still shows his incomprehension for the abstract. His curiosity for art and his ambition to create are still the drivers of his work to this day. After high school, Casper Faassen travels through the United States in search of adventure and inspiration. His life on the streets imbues him with the passion of the American multicultural society: the choice and color of impressions influence the work he produces in the United States. At the same time, where possible, he visits the Museums and exhibitions to admire the works of his great examples in real life. Once back in the Netherlands, Faassen decides to study the science behind Marketing and Communication at the University of Amsterdam. In his work it is mainly emotion that drives him and that is something that is practically impossible to teach, says Casper about his decision not to follow an art course. Instead, he moves into a studio in the artist complex “Tussen de Bogen” in Amsterdam. Here he has the freedom to further develop his painting. Every free minute Faassen satisfies his need to create: clearly floating between impressionism, realism and more abstract movements. Faassen experiments well with it. Different techniques, different materials, but always with the common denominator of spontaneity and colour. Over time, Casper Faassen, influenced by his great example Pablo Picasso, among other things, develops two clearly recognizable styles of his own. The more classic figurative nudes and the colorful animal figures. Highlights from 2003 are the serigraph series for the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the second place behind Corneille in the artist of the year election and the selection as a 'descendant of Rembrandt' to be allowed to exhibit during the Rembrandt gala in Huis ter Duin.
