Carlo Scarpa's “Scuderia” table, produced by Bernini in 1977 based on a design stemming from his work on Villa Valmarana in Vicenza in the early 1970s. The name Scuderia – Italian for stable – refers to the estate's historic stables, which were restored by Scarpa and where he established his studio in the years leading up to his death. Scarpa himself lived in the quarters above the stables and worked there until his passing in 1978. This particular piece is crafted in solid walnut with a richly figured top in which the natural beauty of the wood takes center stage. The characteristic legs, constructed from double cylindrical elements at the corners, give the table a powerful and architectural appearance. A remarkable design from Scarpa's late period in which architecture, craftsmanship, and personal history converge. In good vintage condition with light signs of wear consistent with age and use.
