Vintage Daybed & Armchair by Carl Straub for Goldfeder – 1960s
Exceptional German Mid-Century Modern seating set, comprising a versatile daybed/sofa and matching armchair, designed by Carl Straub and manufactured by the German company Goldfeder in the 1960s.
The set is a beautiful example of German Mid-Century design, combining clean organic lines, warm natural materials and practical functionality. The solid cherry wood frames feature pronounced grain, elegantly sculpted flat armrests, tapered legs and carefully constructed cross supports that give the furniture a distinctive yet visually light appearance.
The sofa incorporates a simple, clever mechanism that allows the backrest to fold down easily, transforming it from a comfortable sofa into a spacious daybed. The mechanism is smooth and can be operated with one hand. This multifunctional design makes the piece particularly suitable for compact living spaces, guest rooms, home offices or interiors where an additional sleeping or lounging area is desired.
