The Cadett lounge chair was designed by Eric Merthen for Ire Möbler — exclusively designed for the Swedish Army Officer Corps (Cadettkåren). Hence the name “Cadett”. The model was developed with an emphasis on ergonomics, durability, and representative elegance.
The design combines the robust character of military furniture with the refined aesthetics of Scandinavian modernism. The soft, leather-covered cushions rest on wide leather straps that provide springy comfort. The slightly curved armrests and the slender rosewood frame give the chair a sculptural silhouette, typical of Merthen's work. Today, the Cadett is considered a rare and sought-after design classic — an epitome of Swedish furniture artistry from the 1960s.
