This large crucifix is a beautiful example of brutalist German design from the bronze foundry **Butzon & Bercker (or related art workshop Ars Liturgica of Maria Laach Abbey). The sleek brass cross measures 17.5 x 28 cm. The Christ figure (13 x 13 cm) is cast in bronze with a dark, almost black patina, creating a powerful contrast with the sleek, gold-colored brass cross. *C. 10/13 does not refer to the text above. This specific verse is one of the most fundamental promises within the Christian faith regarding salvation through Jesus Christ. In the case of this crucifix, it is a casting stamp on the back of the corpus referring to which model corpus should be mounted on which size cross. The object is in very good original condition, consistent with its age. The contrast between the dark brutalist bronze of the Jesus figure and the sleek, highly polished brass cross is an absolute hallmark of their** more luxurious catalog pieces from the 1960s.
