This is a collection of authentic arrows, originating from the Sepik and/or Asmat tribes from Papua New Guinea. These objects are not only functional hunting or war weapons, but also expressions of a rich cultural and artistic tradition, visible in the detailed craftsmanship.
Each arrow is made from natural materials such as wood and bamboo, with carefully crafted points. Some points feature complex barbs, while others are decorated with carved geometric or symbolic patterns. The shafts are often wrapped with woven plant fibers, which strengthens the construction and contributes to the aesthetic value. The colors are earthy, ranging from dark brown and black to the lighter shades of bamboo.
The overall condition of the arrows is consistent with their age and original use. The objects show an authentic patina and signs of wear that contribute to their character and historical significance. These signs of age confirm the authenticity of the collection.
I purchased this collection from a liquidator, who found this treasure of knowledge and art, among other things, in the estate of a deceased missionary priest.
The bow is 209 cm, the arrows are between 165 and 190 cm long. These are sizes that are not really enthusiastically received by courier services. The arrows would still fit in a 200 cm cardboard tube, but the bow will be problematic.
The bow is made of black palm wood, the string is missing.
