B-262 Pine Veneer Table Lamp by Hans-Agne Jakobsson for AB Ellysett, Sweden (1960s)
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) is widely regarded as one of Sweden’s most celebrated lighting designers. Trained as a carpenter and architect, he developed a unique ability to create atmospheric, diffused light through the clever use of materials. His designs, produced under his own company AB Markaryd as well as AB Ellysett, became icons of Scandinavian mid-century modernism.
The B-262 table lamp is a wonderful example of Jakobsson’s masterful approach. It features a shade made of thin pine veneer strips, arranged to diffuse the light with a warm, natural glow. The organic material and handcrafted construction create a distinctive ambience, making each example slightly unique. The lamp sits upon a simple base that emphasizes the natural beauty of the veneer shade.
This model is rare and highly sought after by collectors of Scandinavian design. The lamp remains in very good vintage condition, with light signs of age consistent with its material and period. A true testament to Jakobsson’s ability to combine functional design with poetic light.
