2020 marks the 130th anniversary of Artifort. This world-famous design brand that stands for design and comfort has become an indispensable part of a stylish interior. Initially, Artifort made classic furniture and of wood. In 1890 Jules Wagemans started as an upholsterer in Maastricht. His son took over the company and built it into furniture factory H. Wagemans & Van Tuinen. In 1928 they introduced the brand name Artifort and until the 1950s the furniture factory specialized in wooden classic furniture. The 1950s marked a turning point for Artifort. Much changed with the arrival of furniture designer Kho Liang Ie, who became Artifort's aesthetic consultant. His vision and knowledge of the design profession were decisive for the successes in the following decades.
