Supported by a number of fellow painters, including Jan Sierhuis, he followed his instincts, the path he had before his eyes. There are narrative elements in Anton Martineau's oeuvre. Newspapers, letters, shoes, everyday objects, just like love, eroticism and fear, are themes. From small ink drawings he starts his way and continues his endless quest that seems to have no end because, as he himself claims, the work is never finished! He says about his poems: A poem must be loaded through and through. You bring forces together to create tension. It has to vibrate your body down to the smallest fibres. He is also passionate as a painter and draftsman. Smooth sketches often precede work in paint. He doesn't throw anything away during the process of becoming. Fortunately, because his drawings also fascinate and amaze. After all, he masters charcoal, pencil and chalk abstraction like no other.
