Product description
This antique glazed earthenware vase is a terracotta pot with a green lead glaze on the rim and interior. It originates from Central Europe, from the early 20th century, when folk pottery was wheel-thrown and glazed for the domestic pantry. These terracotta pots served to keep milk, fat or preserves in the rural kitchen. The lead glaze was applied only where the contents required it, leaving the body in bare clay. The body is wheel-thrown red clay, with fine horizontal incisions and a wavy line below the shoulder. The green glaze covers the rim and runs down the interior, with drips towards the body. The bare clay shows the warm tone of the terracotta and soft wear; the glaze keeps its uneven sheen. The surface reads authentic, with no restoration to mask it. For its size and making, it serves as a vase for dried flowers, a table piece or an accent on a shelf. It fits wabi-sabi, rustic and Mediterranean interiors, where it brings warmth and material presence.
