This antique travel trunk in pine wood is a dome-lidded chest with iron straps and wooden slats. It originates from Central Europe, from the early twentieth century, within rustic travel and storage furniture.
Trunks and chests kept clothing, trousseau and household goods in the home, and also accompanied moves. Their hinged lid and robust body answered to everyday, lasting use.
The body is solid pine, with a domed lid braced by iron straps and slats, an iron catch and side handles. The joinery is traditional and the construction is solid.
The patina is warm, with the pine grain on view and marked wear at edges and hardware that attests to its journeys. The surface reads authentic, with no restoration to mask it.
For its format, it serves as a chest at the foot of the bed, a low table or a storage piece. It fits rustic, country and wabi-sabi interiors, where it brings warmth and an honest presence.
