Product description
Antique low table in pine wood, traditional Chinese furniture originating from northern China and dated circa 1930. Originates from northern China, from the early 20th century, where local pine was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery without nails, with a framed solid top and shaped aprons. In the rural houses of northern China, low tables were used beside the kang as a support for tea cups, an informal dining table or a base for objects. Their reduced height matched the custom of living close to the floor. Built in solid pine using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, without nails. The framed top rests on four turned-section legs with arched shaped aprons and H-shaped lower stretchers. The carpentry is clean and the constructive reading remains visible. The patina retains the warm tone of aged pine, with visible grain and a matte sheen. The top shows marks, stains and traces of prolonged domestic use. The structure remains solid. It fits naturally in wabi-sabi, japandi or contemporary rustic interiors. It works as a low living-room table, a base for objects beside a sofa or a support for a tea ceremony. Its restraint lets it combine with pieces from different periods.
