Product description
Antique low table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty. Originates from southern China, from the late 19th century, where elm was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery for everyday domestic furniture.
This type of low table accompanied low seating or kangs in the traditional Chinese home, serving to hold the tea service or other everyday objects.
The single-plank elm top rests on four straight, cylindrical legs, joined by a crossed stretcher that reinforces the structure without adding ornament.
The wood has taken on a uniform golden tone, with longitudinal drying cracks in the top and small losses along the edges, the natural result of over a century of domestic use.
In a contemporary or wabi-sabi living room, it works as a coffee or side table, bringing geometric sobriety and the warmth of aged wood.
