Antique low table in solid wood, from China. Originates from Qing dynasty domestic furniture, when tables of this format served as a support surface or coffee table in the traditional home. The rectangular top rests on four legs splayed slightly outward at the ends, joined with mortise-and-tenon work, and braced by a lower stretcher. The wood shows a warm-toned aged patina, with the wooden pegs and wedges of traditional joinery visible on the surface of the top. The piece retains wear marks consistent with its age, typical of period Chinese domestic furniture. In a contemporary living room, it works as a low coffee table, bringing the structural solidity and historical character of period Chinese furniture.
