Vintage deep dish in French faience from Digoin and Sarreguemines, Cannes model, made around the mid-20th century. The Digoin factory is part of one of the great stories of French industrial faience. Established in Saône-et-Loire at the end of the 19th century as an extension of the Sarreguemines works, it developed over several decades a significant production of tableware intended for French tables. Robust and affordable, these pieces were nonetheless well-crafted in their forms and decorations, today having become particularly evocative of our grandparents' tableware. The Cannes model is a fine example of this. On the ivory background of the faience, two large roses in shades of old rose and burgundy occupy the center of the dish. They are accompanied by blue foliage with subtly shaded hues. All around runs a blue frieze composed of interwoven arches and small dots, giving the floral decoration a particularly recognizable graphic appearance. The decoration is made using the stencil technique, widely employed by French factories to achieve these plays of shades and subtly blended contours which give the flowers almost the appearance of a painted decoration. With its round and deeply hollowed shape, this piece was intended for table service. Today, it can naturally regain its place as a serving dish for vegetables, salads, or family meals, while easily complementing mismatched vintage tableware. The reverse bears the mark Cannes – Digoin – Sarreguemines – France, accompanied by the number 21. Good overall condition for its age. The decoration retains very beautiful colors and the faience its beautiful antique presence. Some discreet traces of time and use are visible in the photographs. Diameter approximately 26 cm.
