This antique Chinese glazed stoneware vase is an ovoid jar with a olive-green glaze with lug handles and horizontal ribbing at the shoulder. It originates from China, from the Qing dynasty, when stoneware was fired in provincial kilns for domestic use.
These stoneware jars served to keep food and liquids in the Chinese home, with a dip glaze that left the foot uncovered. Today they are appreciated as decorative vases.
The body is high-fired stoneware, with an ash glaze dipped over the upper half and horizontal ribbing under the glaze. It keeps two lug handles at the shoulder.
The olive-green glaze shows the irregularities of the kiln and soft wear, and the bare stoneware of the foot contrasts with the glaze. The surface reads authentic, with no restoration to mask it.
For its size and making, it serves as a vase for dried flowers, a table piece or an accent on a shelf. It fits wabi-sabi, japandi and rustic interiors, where it brings warmth and material presence.
