A superb piece of Primitive Art from East Africa combining Coptic-influenced geometric rigor with resolutely modernist architectural lines. The seat is topped with a cubist-stylized wading bird's head. The Nomadic Transport Lug: The rear appendage is perforated for the passage of a carrying strap. Origin: Ethiopia (Gurage / Oromo Art, Jimma region). Period: First half of the 20th century (circa 1920 - 1940). Magnificent deep, dark, mirror-like handling patina on the seat (greasy patina from use), contrasting with the naturally discolored pads under the base. Dimensions: Length: 51 cm | Width: 13 cm | Height: 23 cm. Weight: 1.5 kg (Ideal density for a travel object, confirming its nomadic function).
