All the charm of Bavarian porcelain is found in this elegant set of six dinner plates, made by the Schumann factory in Arzberg, a German house whose productions have largely contributed to the porcelain reputation of this small town in Upper Franconia. Made around , as indicated by the variation of the Schumann Arzberg Bavaria stamp on the reverse, these plates deliberately perpetuate a much older decorative repertoire. The factory here plays with the codes of classic European porcelain, in that rococo and floral spirit that transcends eras without truly disappearing from elegant tables. The ivory porcelain is crafted in a particularly elegant shape. The widely scalloped rim alternates curves, undulations, and subtle molded reliefs, giving each plate an almost floral silhouette. A delicate gilded line follows the entire animated border, while a second discreetly highlights the center. All around, small polychrome bouquets, deliberately different from one another, are arranged in succession. Roses, pansies, and small wildflowers form a palette of pinks, purples, blues, yellows, and greens that enlivens the porcelain without ever overwhelming it. This dispersion of motifs gives the set a great deal of lightness and allows for full appreciation of the beautiful ivory hue of the background. With their approximate 25 cm diameter, these six dinner plates have generous proportions and can naturally resume their function on a table. Their decor also allows them to be very easily associated with other Schumann Arzberg pieces of the same spirit, particularly to gradually recreate a mismatched antique dinnerware set featuring flowers and gilding. The reverse bears the crowned Bavaria – Schumann Arzberg stamp, accompanied by the number 52 corresponding to the decor. The six plates are preserved in very good general condition. The gilding shows some discreet marks and wear from age, visible in the photographs, which do not detract from the elegance of this set.
