Some brands are so much a part of our daily lives that they end up telling a piece of our own history. Lustucru is one of them. The blue checkerboard, fresh egg pasta, Wednesday's coquillettes, and steaming plates placed on the family table have accompanied several generations of French children. The story begins in Grenoble in the 1870s with the Cartier-Millon family. In 1911, the Lustucru identity truly came into being. During a competition aimed at renewing the brand's image, the famous blue checkerboard appeared, which would become inseparable from the brand. The name Lustucru, borrowed from popular imagination and the old nursery rhyme of Mère Michel, completed the construction of an identity that over a century has scarcely erased. These four large plates constitute a lovely testament to this popular French history. Made of Limoges porcelain, they bear on the reverse the inscription "Création Lustucru" as well as the indication of a limited edition of 22,200 pieces. The decor is particularly delightful. All around the rim runs a veritable little fresco of rural France. Wheat fields, harvests, a mill, peasants at work, carts, chickens, and geese compose an animated landscape in yellows, blues, greens, and oranges, naturally bordered by the iconic blue checkerboard. At the bottom of each plate is the cartouche "Les Pâtes aux Œufs Frais Lustucru depuis 1911" (Fresh Egg Pasta Lustucru since 1911). Beyond being an advertising object, it is above all a formidable little memory machine. Lustucru, of course, means coquillettes, those we ate as children with butter, ham, or a mountain of grated cheese. An unpretentious dish that has become almost a French "Proustian madeleine," capable of bringing one back in a few seconds to family kitchens and Wednesday meals. With their approximately 26 cm in diameter, these plates have beautiful proportions and remain perfectly usable. They can naturally be used again at the table, but their design also makes them very beautiful decorative objects for a kitchen, where the set of four truly makes sense. The four pieces are preserved in very good general condition, with only the discreet traces of time and use visible in the photographs.
