Two works by Henri Matchavariani; Le Samouraï levant le sabre & Femme du Japon. India ink and pastel Both hand signed and with red stamp characteristic of the artist. 40 cm by 29 cm; 2020. Henri Matchavariani (Paris, 1939) lives and works in Paris. As an art director, he created advertising campaigns for such renowned companies as BMW, Air France and Vogue, and he collaborated with Helmut Newton for a Cacharel ad. His awards included a Silver Lion (Cannes, 1974) and a gold Clio Award (New York, 1976). "Juste quelques traits comme une économie, comme une stricte nécessité au signe. Juste quelques traits et plus rien que cela." His calligraphic works have been compared to the works of Christian Dotremont, one of the founders and important artists han the Cobra movement.
