Product description
This is a set of two traditional Chinese seals, handcrafted from soapstone. From the years 1910-1930. The objects are distinguished by the detailed, carved figures of lion-dogs, also known as 'foo dogs', which act as protectors. Each seal is topped with a carefully crafted lion-dog and rests on a rectangular base. The sides of the base are engraved with refined, linear depictions of landscapes and flora. The bottom of each seal features characters, intended for making an impression. The pieces are executed in natural earth tones, ranging from beige to brown, with the characteristic veining of the stone type. The set is in good condition, consistent with its age and use. The soapstone has developed an authentic patina that contributes to the character of the objects. The carving is generally well preserved. These decorative seals are a refined addition to a desk, a library, or a display cabinet. They fit perfectly into an interior with a classic or eclectic style, where they offer a subtle reference to Asian art and craftsmanship.
