Artemide Design Lamps: why these lamps are a must-have for your interiors

The beginning

Artemide is an Italian lighting manufacturer founded in 1960 by design duo Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza. Based in a suburb of Milan, the company specialises in producing designer lamps. And they do it well. For more than 60 years, high-quality designer lamps have come out of the factory.
Over the years, Artemide develops some extraordinary lamps. In 1960, the company put itself on the map with the production of the Alfa: Artemide's first lamp, designed by Sergio Mazza. The Polluce floor lamp soon followed in 1965, and later the Tizio and Tolomeo desk lamps.
The brand is known for its innovative designs and use of high-quality materials, making the lamps not only beautiful but also functional and durable. It is characterised by its special knowledge of materials, functionality and innovation. At the same time, Artemide stands for a combination of ancient (Italian) wisdom and cutting-edge technology. This mix makes the lamps more than just lighting - we see them more as light sculptures. Bellissima!

Leading designers

Apart from house designers Gismondi and Mazza, other big names also design for Artemide. Such as Mario Botta, Sir Norman Foster and Carlotta de Bevilacqua. Architects Herzog & de Meuron and fashion designer Issey Miyake also collaborate with the Italian brand.

All designs are welcomed with open arms by design enthusiasts. Artemide receives award after award and the brand develops at lightning speed. In 2021, Artemide will even open its own Exhibition Centre in Milan: a permanent exhibition focusing on the concept of light.

A piece of the museum in your home

One of the few forays into furniture made by Artemide in 1970. The Selene is a stackable plastic chair designed by Vico Magistretti. A rare experiment, yet extremely successful.

Not surprisingly, the design is included in the collection of the MoMA in New York. Apart from the Selene, you will also find the Demetrio table (also stackable) and the IN-EI lamp designed by Issey Miyake for Artemide.

Design and functionality

Artemide designer lamps are known for their unique and innovative designs. As described, Artemide collaborates with international designers to create unique lamps that are not only beautiful, but also functional and practical.

One of Artemide's most popular designer lamps is the Tolomeo lamp, designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina. This lamp has a simple and timeless design that suits any interior. The Tolomeo lamp is available in different sizes, colours and finishes so you can always find one that suits your personal style.

Quality and durability

Artemide is known for its high-quality materials and craftsmanship. All Artemide Design Lamps are handmade in Italy and feature high-quality materials such as aluminium, glass and steel. The quality of the lamps is reflected in the fact that many designs have been popular for decades. The Tolomeo lamp, for example, was designed back in 1987 but is still one of the most popular design lamps in the world. Artemide also places great importance on sustainability and energy efficiency. Many of the Artemide lamps are equipped with LED lighting technology. Naturally, LED consumes less energy than traditional incandescent or halogen lamps. This is positive for the environment and your own wallet.

Variety and range

Artemide Design Lamps are available in different sizes, colours and finishes so there is always one that suits your personal style. Whether you like sleek designs or more organic design, Artemide has something for everyone.

Artemide makes it easy to take your interior to the next level with a wide range of lamps. The lamps are available in different sizes, colours and finishes so there is always one that suits your personal style. By cleverly combining different lamps, you can create your own unique atmosphere. Think of an Artemide table lamp, and a ceiling pendant lamp. Artemide also offers floor lamps and wall lights.

Just like the lamps, Artemide furniture is sleek, very functional and extremely popular among design enthusiasts. Be inspired and experiment with Artemide's special Italian designs. It's art!
