Eero Saarinen Eero Saarinen is an American designer of Finnish origin. He has designed many successful pieces of furniture for Knoll Knoll and is one of the most prolific designers of the 20th century. His various design and architectural projects are renowned for their uniqueness, accuracy and originality. He was responsible for many of the best-sellers of the 1950s, including the Tulip chair and the Tulip table. The Tulip collection for Knoll was created in the 1950s, in 1956 to be precise. As a daring designer, Saarinen was faced with the challenge of designing furniture on a single leg. In his own words, he wanted to clear up the "jungle of legs" that was the traditional four-legged chair. A real technical feat for the time! "The legs of traditional tables and chairs made space inelegant and uncomfortable" Eero Saarinen The futuristic style of the Tulipe series, and of the table in particular, quickly won over interior design enthusiasts. Even today, this piece is an essential part of twentieth-century design, with its perfect blend of elegance and modernity. There are many more or less successful copies of this iconic table, and there are a number of technical characteristics that help you tell the genuine from the fake. The bevelled top can be oval or round: it can be made of laminate, wood or marble: it is fixed to a one-piece cast aluminium base, coated with "Rilsan". Knoll has been producing Eero Saarinen's Tulip table without interruption since 1956.
