Poul Cadovius Poul Cadovius... His name may not ring a bell, but you're sure to have come across one of his creations on more than one occasion. The Danish architect, designer and publisher is the inventor of modular systems, including the legendary Royal System! Poul Cadovius was born in Denmark in 1911. He studied to become a saddler and upholsterer. However, he turned away from his first passion to take an interest in furniture design, and in particular the design of wall-mounted modular systems. Motivated by the idea of designing furniture that would blend in perfectly with all types of interior, he came up with several collections of modular shelving with an impressive number of possible combinations. Throughout his career, the designer has been driven by a strong desire to create functional furniture. So it was only natural that Cadovius should come up with the idea of designing pieces in kit form. Later, the ambitious designer decided to buy the company France et Son, which later became Cado, for which he and other designers designed numerous pieces. His innovative approach to modular shelving and kit furniture made Poul Cadovius one of the greatest designers of the 20th century.
