The famous Wire chair by Charles and Ray Eames Charles and Ray Eames is at the heart of an exciting social, creative and artistic project. The association La Source La Source, whose social and educational vocation includes artistic expression, has set up a partnership with the Vitra Design Museum (Basel, Switzerland), which is dedicated to designer furniture. The museum has invited a number of contemporary French artists to revisit this iconic piece of 20th century design. The works of art were sold on 18 December at the Hôtel de l'Industrie in Paris, with the proceeds going to the La Source La Source association's workshop for children in difficulty. The Wire chair (also known as the DKR) was designed in 1948 for the "Low Cost Furniture Desig n" competition organised by the Museum of Modern Art Museum of Modern Art in New York. The welded steel wire used is reminiscent of the creations of designer Harry Bertoia . It's no coincidence that Bertoia worked at the Eames Eames studio in the 1940s. The couple were therefore directly inspired by the designer's work. Since 1958, Vitra has been offering slightly different versions of the original model by adding leather and offering different colours. As you can see from the photos, some artists have favoured art over functionality. This is the case of French designer Philippe Starck, who has paid tribute to the famous Pont Des Arts Pont Des Arts in Paris by hanging padlocks all over the vintage chair chaise vintage . It is also impossible to sit on Guillaume Delvigne's reinterpretation of Gloriette Gloriette. Finally, we strongly advise against using the Barbecue Eames Barbecue Eames by Designstudio as a seat, as it is now being used as a barbecue! On the other hand, other artists such as the architect Jean-François Lesag e - son of the weaver François Lesage and a regular collaborator of Louboutin - and Bruno Moinard wanted to accentuate the comfort of the Wire chair. The former wove threads through the holes to create a colourful pattern, while the latter wrapped the chair in coloured wool. Ionna Vautrin has chosen to cover her Gaufrette Gaufrette model with a cushion that highlights the latticework. This ingenious and seductive collaboration between La Source La Source and Vitra Vitra allows us to rediscover this legendary chair in different ways!
