Does a standard modern mattress fit a vintage bed frame?
Many older frames were built around sizes such as 90 x 190 or 140 x 190 cm, while today 200 cm length is common. Measure the inside of the frame, not the outer dimensions, and check the slat base height too. A custom mattress or a new slatted base is an easy fix if the numbers are slightly off.
How do you check a vintage bed for stability?
Ask the seller about the joints and connecting hardware, since wobble usually comes from worn bolts or missing brackets rather than the wood itself. Tightening or replacing fittings solves most issues. For metal frames, look for rust at the welds, and for rattan, check that the weave is intact at the corners.
