Product description
Dutch Design: an iconic Hala Zeist model 144 desk lamp, designed by H.Th.J.A. Busquet. This is a sought-after example from the very first generation, recognizable by the heavy, authentic cast iron base plate in which the model number '144' is cast (see photo). This early model has recently been modified for modern and daily use. The outdated flickering lamp at startup and the disturbing hum have been completely removed. Instead, the lamp has been fitted with an LED conversion. The LED ring perfectly mimics the look of the original, characteristic round fluorescent tube. As a result, the lamp starts immediately, does not flicker, and is completely silent and energy-efficient. Condition and patina: The lamp is in beautiful, vintage condition with a wonderful, lived-in character. Both the dark brown shade and the base have acquired some light, natural patina over the years. This gives the lamp its authentic Mid-Century look and testifies to its decades of history. The chrome construction is still in neat condition and the hinges work properly. A unique collector's item that is ready for the future! Specifications: • Designer: H.Th.J.A. Busquet • Manufacturer: Hala Zeist • Model: 144 (1st generation with cast iron base) • Color: Dark brown / Chrome • Lighting: Energy-efficient LED (warm light, flicker-free) • Period: 1950s
