A striking 35 cm porcelain vase from the Weave collection, designed by Zaha Hadid Design for Rosenthal and introduced in 2019.
This lower, broader version of Weave offers a distinctly different interpretation of the design from its taller 45 cm companion. Its more expansive proportions emphasize the interaction of the flowing lines across the body, creating a compact yet strongly sculptural presence.
Executed in black porcelain, the vase translates the fluid movement of Zaha Hadid’s characteristic drawing language into three dimensions. Delicate lines appear to interweave, diverge, and reconnect across the surface, creating continuously changing patterns of relief, light, and shadow.
Design & Concept
According to Zaha Hadid Design, the Weave collection was inspired by the fluid lines of Hadid’s sketching hand. Fine strokes interweave and separate across the porcelain form, expressing an interplay between fluidity and symmetry.
The 35 cm format allows these lines to spread across a broader silhouette than the taller 45 cm version, giving the vase a particularly substantial sculptural character.
Rather than separating decoration from structure, Weave integrates the two: the network of flowing lines becomes an essential part of the three-dimensional form itself.
About the Designer
Zaha Hadid (1950–2016) was one of the most influential architects of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. In 2004, she became the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize.
Through Zaha Hadid Design, the studio extended this architectural vocabulary into furniture, lighting, jewellery, fashion, and collectible objects. Its collaboration with Rosenthal translated the studio’s exploration of fluid geometry, movement, and complex surfaces into porcelain.
