Designed in 1986 by Xavier Matégot, the XM2 bookcase exemplifies a decidedly architectural approach to furniture. Its design boldly showcases the structural elements, transforming construction technique into a true aesthetic language.
The structure is made of folded sheet steel, with perforated uprights and hollow beams, stiffened by a system of steel cables tensioned in a cross pattern. This system ensures perfect stability while giving the whole a remarkable visual lightness. The five glass shelves appear to float within this airy structure, reinforcing the balance between transparency, technical precision, and minimalism.
