After his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam in the 1960s, Wouter Stips engaged with various forms of visual and applied arts, including in Paris and Prague. From 1980 onwards, he focused on writing, directing, and producing television programs such as theater documentaries, drama, and comedy series. After 15 intensive years in television, he decided in 1995 to return to his true craft and love: the profession of visual artist. Many exhibitions and publications followed, both at home and abroad. His paintings and sculptures find their way to collectors worldwide via galleries and museums. Wouter has written eight poetic art books (translated into English, German, and Bahasa Indonesia, among others). Since 2004, he has also been creating sculptures in ceramics, wood, polyester, bronze, and glass (Murano, Bohemia). He works in his studios in Hilversum, but also in Africa and Asia during the travels he undertakes to initiate and support projects for organizations such as Terre des Hommes, Liliane Fonds, Memisa / Cordaid, and Stichting Kansarme Kinderen. He celebrated his 70th birthday at the Singer Museum in Laren with a major solo exhibition and a theatrical art spectacle in collaboration with the Scapino Ballet, actor friends, and musicians from the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
