Product description
Rare modular wooden puzzle-sculpture designed by Sori Yanagi, a major figure in 20th-century Japanese design. Comprising a complex assembly of solid wood modules forming a sculptural volume, this piece contains several tinted wooden spheres that appear through the openwork structure, creating a subtle interplay of solids and voids. On the border between a work of art, a construction game, and a design object, this sculpture perfectly illustrates Yanagi's philosophy: combining formal simplicity, balance, and constructive intelligence. Son of Soetsu Yanagi, founder of the Mingei movement, Sori Yanagi (1915–2011) is globally renowned for his iconic creations such as the Butterfly and Elephant stools. After working with Charlotte Perriand, he developed a unique aesthetic language blending traditional Japanese craftsmanship and industrial modernity. His puzzle-sculptures, produced in very limited quantities, remain today among the rarest works of his production. Japan, circa 1970.
