About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This is a hand-carved single bed from Mexico, dating to the early 20th century. Crafted from solid wood, it presents a commanding presence defined by its intricate carvings and substantial form. The piece is a notable example of traditional Mexican woodworking, reflecting a rich history of artisanal skill.
The bed frame is constructed from a dark-finished wood, featuring a highly detailed headboard and footboard. The design incorporates deep relief carvings with Baroque-inspired motifs, including acanthus scrolls and central shell crests. A defining feature is the pair of large, spirally-turned posts on the footboard, which add to its sculptural quality. The frame is designed to accommodate a 90 x 190 cm mattress.
As a piece with a century of history, the bed displays a characterful patina and signs of a long life. The original finish has aged naturally, contributing to its authentic antique appeal. The overall structure remains solid and robust, showcasing the durability of its original construction.
