Description of the painting: A solitary figure with a bright red umbrella moves through a virtually colorless world. Black, white, and gray form a dense landscape of lines, planes, and structures, in which houses, roads, and the surroundings seem to almost merge into one another. Precisely because of this, the red immediately draws attention. The figure becomes a vulnerable yet powerful focal point: small compared to the world around her, yet simultaneously impossible to miss. The rough layers of paint, scratches, and angular lines give the work a sense of movement and unease. The umbrella seems to offer protection against an environment that is overwhelming and unpredictable. At the same time, the red can be interpreted as vitality, individuality, and the courage to remain visible. The work leaves much open.
