Product description
WMF Art Deco "Hammerschlag" milk jug and sugar bowl with porcelain insert, ca. 1930-1940 A beautiful two-piece set from the renowned WMF Thermos line, consisting of a milk jug and a sugar bowl with lid. A typical product of the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) from the Art Deco / Bauhaus period, featuring the characteristic combination of industrial craftsmanship and strict geometric design that defines this era. Construction The pieces consist of two components: a porcelain inner pot (Einsatz) that ensures hygiene and suitability for hot beverages, surrounded by a silver-plated metal casing created using the well-known WMF "Hammerschlag" technique, in which the surface is manually worked with a hammer. This construction originally served as thermal insulation, a patent for which WMF was known during this period. The hammered texture, combined with the warm undertone that subtly shows through at the highest points, gives the pieces a rich, lively patina characteristic of authentic WMF production from this period. Specifications Dimensions milk jug hxwxd: approx. 10.5 cm x 12 cm x 6.5 cm Dimensions sugar bowl (with lid) hxwxd: approx. 9 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm Period: approx. 1930-1940 Origin: Germany (Geislingen an der Steige) Style: Art Deco / Bauhaus / Neue Sachlichkeit Sheath material: silver-plated metal, hammered Inner pot material: porcelain, cream white Both pieces marked with the original WMF logo on the underside In good vintage condition, commensurate with age. The hammered silver plating shows natural wear at the highest points, causing the underlayer to show through in a few places. No dents, no repairs. Porcelain inner pot without cracks or chips, lid closes tightly. During this period, WMF collaborated with major German porcelain manufacturers such as Arzberg, Hutschenreuther, and Bauscher Weiden for the porcelain inserts. The Thermos line is a lasting example of the German design tradition of those years, in which functionality, aesthetics, and industrial craftsmanship came together. A beautiful and complete duo for lovers of Art Deco tableware, Bauhaus design, or German silver history. Suitable both as a functional item on the coffee table and as a purely decorative piece.

Light signs of use appropriate for age, but no dents. Interior clean. See photos for details.
