Product description
Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg – Argenta Art Deco Footed Bowl, Emerald Green & Silver, Model 927 I, Sweden, 1949
An outstanding 1949 example of Wilhelm Kåge's celebrated Argenta series for Gustavsberg, featuring an elegant seated female figure in silver against a richly mottled emerald-green glaze.
With its impressive 22 cm diameter, sculptural footed form, and elaborate hand-applied silver decoration, this bowl is a distinctive collector's piece from one of Sweden's most recognisable Art Deco ceramic collections.
Design & Craftsmanship
The bowl combines a softly waved, silver-lined rim with a fluted exterior, decorative crosshatched silver panels, and a broad circular foot.
Its interior features a finely detailed seated female figure surrounded by delicate botanical motifs. The contrast between the luminous silver ornament and deep green glaze creates a particularly elegant composition.
The elaborate figurative decoration and architectural form give this piece a strong presence as a standalone centerpiece.
About Argenta & Wilhelm Kåge
Introduced at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930, Argenta became a defining series of Swedish Art Deco ceramics, celebrated for its characteristic green glaze and hand-applied silver ornament.
Wilhelm Kåge (1889–1960) served as Gustavsberg's artistic director from 1917 to 1949 and played a central role in the development of modern Swedish ceramic design.
