Product description
TOP-DESIGNCLASSIX™ "Design classics, design and vintage furniture as new"
For sale is an original 60s/70s String shelf in the original teak version, in mint condition and with the system width of 40cm, which is no longer available today!
OBJECT #7:
String shelf, with 2 ladders and 3 shelves, original teak version from the 60s/70s made of solid wood! Not to be confused with today's new edition made of veneered particle board, for which a teak version is also not available!
Important! The original version consists of solid wood, a so-called three-layer panel, also known as blockboard in technical jargon, where solid wood strips were glued together and provided with wooden top and bottom layers. A high-quality teak veneer was then glued onto this top layer. Blockboards offer significantly higher bending strength, stability, and dimensional stability compared to particle boards, with lower weight. Due to their solid wood core, they are ideal for high-quality, robust, and durable furniture. Particle boards are cheaper, heavier, less load-bearing, and tend to chip at the edges and swell when exposed to moisture.
STYLE:
Mid Century Modern / Scandinavian
DESCRIPTION:
Kajsa and Nisse Strinning, as a young architect couple in Stockholm, won their first international design competition in 1949 with String, a shelving system that can be easily mounted on any wall. The perfect balance between functionality and form is String's goal. String has thus developed into a true design icon over the years and, as a timeless Scandinavian design, has become one of the most popular Swedish and worldwide designs. String has been awarded more than 15 national and international prizes, including the gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954. In 1979, it was included in the design collection of the Swedish National Museum.
MANUFACTURER:
String Furniture AB, Sweden
DESIGNER:
Nisse Strinning (1917-2006) and Kajsa Strinning (1922-2017).

The shaded areas or areas not directly illuminated by the photographic light best represent the natural color tones. Gloss on the photos or grayish or milky areas are also due to exposure or lighting (reflections). The surfaces are semi-matte to semi-glossy.
