Product description
TOP-DESIGNCLASSIX™ "Design classics, design & vintage furniture as new"
For sale is an original 60s/70s String shelf in the original teak version in like-new condition.
OBJECT #5:
String shelf, with 2 ladders and 2 shelves, original teak version from the 60s/70s made of solid wood!
Not to be confused with today's new edition made of veneered chipboard, for which a teak version is also not available!
Important! The original version consists of solid wood, a so-called three-layer panel, also known in technical jargon as a blockboard, where solid wood strips were glued together and provided with wooden top and bottom layers. A high-quality teak veneer was then glued onto this top layer. Compared to chipboard, blockboards offer significantly higher bending strength, stability, and dimensional stability with lower weight. Due to their solid wood core, they are ideal for high-quality, robust, and durable furniture. Chipboards are more cost-effective, heavier, less load-bearing, and tend to chip at the edges and swell when exposed to moisture.
STYLE:
Mid Century Modern / Scandinavian
DESCRIPTION:
In 1949, as a young architect couple in Stockholm, Kajsa and Nisse Strinning won their first international design competition with String, a shelving system that can be easily mounted on any wall.
The perfect balance between functionality and form is String's goal. Over the years, String has thus developed into a true design icon and, as a timeless Scandinavian design, has become one of the most popular Swedish and worldwide designs. String has received more than 15 national and international awards, including the gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954. In 1979, it was included in the design collection of the Swedish National Museum.

String Furniture AB, Sweden

Nisse Strinning (1917-2006) and Kajsa Strinning (1922-2017).
