Raak, founded in 1954, is a leading Dutch lighting company from the 20th century.
In Eindhoven, also known as the Philips City, founder Carel O. Lockhorn began working for the Philips lighting division.
Lockhorn founded the company in Amsterdam in 1954 to realize the motto of Enlightened Architecture.
As his motto suggests – viewing lighting as an architectural element – each Raak lamp has a design so beautiful it could be integrated into a building itself.
The B 1017 model, designed by André Rotte, who worked at Philips and various universities in the Netherlands, was produced for a limited time in 1982 and is a very rare example.
The 1980s were a time when the baby boomer generation actively participated in society and their imaginations flourished. Rotte's futuristic designs perfectly reflected this era, capturing the spirit of the time with innovative yet elegant shapes.
