Bela Silva is one of the most important ceramic artists of our time. She lives and works between Brussels, Lisbon, and Paris. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Porto and Lisbon, then at Norwich University of the Arts in the United Kingdom and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the United States.
Her works have been exhibited in numerous institutions, including the Ann Nathan Gallery, the Rhona Hoffman Gallery, the Museu Nacional do Azulejo, the Museu Anastácio Gonçalves, the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, the Fundação Ricardo Espírito Santo, the Museu do Oriente, the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. She has also participated in exhibitions in China, Japan, Brazil, Spain, South Korea, and France.
Bela Silva has created several public artworks integrated into architecture, including ceramic panels for the Alvalade metro station in Lisbon, for the gardens of the Sakai Cultural Center in Japan, and for the João de Deus School in the Azores. She has also created numerous pieces for private collectors in Europe and the United States.
She regularly collaborates with decorator Jacques Grange and has worked with major international houses such as Hermès, Tiffany & Co., Serax, Viuva Lamego, Bordalo Pinheiro, Vista Alegre, Monoprix (from which this numbered piece originates) and Ginori 1735.
