Mixed media on stretched canvas, framed, 60 × 80 cm, 2024. Part of an ongoing series (2000–2024) exploring how lived landscape experience can become an experience of painting for both artist and viewer. Inspired by the Pyrenees and the coastal and moorland landscapes of West Penwith, Cornwall, the work begins from memory. Ash, bitumen, and layered material processes accumulate on the surface so that making becomes central, allowing the painting to form a new experience beyond recollection. The work is shipped on a stretcher; surface marks, drips, and cracks are integral to the process.
