Private sellerProduct description
This is a vintage physical world map, published by the renowned German cartographic institute Justus Perthes Darmstadt. Titled "De Aarde" (The Earth) This large-scale educational chart is part of the Haack-Painke series, known for its detailed and scientifically accurate representations. Printed in Dutch, the map showcases the world's topography with a rich colour palette indicating elevation, from green lowlands to orange and red mountain ranges. It is presented at a scale of 1:16,000,000, offering a comprehensive view of continents, oceans, and major geographical features. The piece is constructed on canvas mounted on black wooden dowels at the top and bottom, consistent with its original function as a classroom roll-up map. . The publisher is noted as Justus Perthes, Darmstadt, with the Dutch adaptation credited to M. Goossens and distribution by Strenua N.V. Brussel. The map is in a good vintage condition, showing character and history consistent with its age and educational use. The material has developed a natural patina and some waviness over time, which contributes to its authentic charm. The photo's of the map are made while te map is lying on the ground. Most of the waviness will disapear while hanging. The original wooden rods and hanging hardware are intact, preserving its complete, as-issued form. As a substantial piece of wall decor, this map serves as a compelling focal point in a study, home office, or living area. Its aesthetic complements industrial, vintage, or eclectic interior styles, adding a touch of academic history and worldly character to a space. To save space, or when not needed it can be roll-uped, secured with black leather belts, and hung in a storage.
