Private sellerProduct description
Authentic vintage Walker’s “Excelsior” IV Patent Log, manufactured by Thomas Walker & Son Ltd., Birmingham, England.
A beautiful British mechanical nautical instrument originally designed for yachts, motor launches and fishing craft to measure distance travelled through the water.
Presented in its original dovetailed wooden case, retaining the original manufacturer’s instruction label inside the lid.
The set includes the Excelsior IV register with brass bezel and white dial, mounting mechanism, bronze/brass rotator, braided log line, fittings and accessories, as well as a round replacement glass.
The combination of aged wood, brass, bronze and natural rope gives the piece a particularly attractive authentic maritime character. It works equally well as a collectible historical instrument or as a sophisticated decorative object in a nautical, industrial or wabi-sabi interior.
Maker: Thomas Walker & Son Ltd.
Model: Excelsior IV Patent Log
Origin: Birmingham, England
Period: circa mid-20th century
Materials: wood, brass/bronze, metal, glass and rope
Box dimensions: 38.5 × 18.5 × 14 cm
Condition: Good vintage condition with authentic age-related wear and patina. The white dial has a small chip/loss at the lower edge, clearly shown in the photographs. A separate round replacement glass is included.
The wooden case shows scratches, marks and wear consistent with age. The metal surfaces retain their original aged patina and have not been over-polished.
The instrument has not been professionally serviced or calibrated; mechanical accuracy is therefore not guaranteed.
Please refer carefully to the photographs for the overall condition and details.
