Hella Jongerius named the sofa "Polder." With it, the Dutch designer refers to the land that was reclaimed from the sea through the construction of dikes and canals. In fact, the asymmetrical sofa is reminiscent of a polder landscape. The upholstered elements are covered with different fabrics in six coordinated color shades. The effect is initially irritating. Did something go wrong with the upholstery? Are some of the colors faded? Is the sofa new or second-hand? Jongerius on this interplay of colors and textures: "Something interesting only comes about when I manage to combine different layers of ideas, stories, material properties, processes, details, beauty, tactile experiences and inconsistencies." The hocker is also original to the Vitra Polder collection. D0155
