Product description
This is the iconic rod cabinet, designed by Willem Lutjens for Gouda Den Boer in the 1950s. The piece of furniture is a classic example of Dutch Design and stands out for its airy, open structure and the use of curved wooden shelves in combination with round uprights. The cabinet is made of wood with a light, warm finish and consists of four levels with, uncommonly, different shelf widths. The design is characteristic of the post-war period when functionality and simplicity were central. The furniture is in good condition, with a few spots (figs 8,9,10) but certainly less visible with some polishing. This rod cabinet functions excellently as a room divider or bookcase in a modern, Scandinavian or Mid-Century interior. The open design ensures that the space remains light and spacious, while also being a functional and aesthetic addition to the living room or study.
